THE ISLAND

Mersea Island is the most easterly inhabited island in Great Britain and
has beautiful views over the Blackwater Estuary.

Farming, fishing and boating and yachting are the main industries and oysters have been harvested off the
island since Roman times.

There are several restaurants, pubs and cafes on the island, offering locally caught seafood.

The island is excellent for walking, boat trips and watersports including sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking and windsurfing.

For those wanting the quieter life, Mersea's beautiful beaches and traditional fishing community offers a peaceful, old-fashioned family getaway.

Think Famous Five meets Swallows and Amazons and you will be half way there!
